Beautiful Destructors

‘Within a dystopian world an ensemble of corruptive romantic inhabitants and serrated crystalline shapes are enveloped, becoming mutated and decayed by an alluring yet ever futile corallic pool party’

My work explores the notion that desire can be a destructive force. The ideas are fuelled by an admiration of the power that iconic imagery possesses, in particular print media from the 1950s. The concepts are constructed around the romantic bliss that the imagery holds, it fills us with desire to strive for a perfect life, a quest that is ultimately futile. This has lead me to create manifestations that depict chaos within attraction.

The intention is to expose the sinister undertones that Western propaganda holds. The constant bombardment of angelic imagery fills me with a sense of unfulfillment. I choose old Holywood imagery as a source because this era captures these ideals in their purest form. By applying viscous, inky growth structures on the surface of the print; the demise and collapse of subservience is depicted. As I divulge the complex ideals of attraction onto this lustful population. Their bodies become engulfed by a corrosive embellishing organism that is entirely infectious and is taking over. The globular substance is a destructive force.

These ensembles rettain their sense of attraction as they are also adorned by crysalline constructs. A sense of Desire and Danger is formed.
